Fed: Aust women to stand by their East Timorese sisters: GG

Governor-General QUENTIN BRYCE has used her first official visit to East Timor to pledge
the support of Australian women to end the hardship and poverty of their Asian sisters.

She also told East Timor's national parliament the relationship between the two countries
.. which she says share a common ethos and a common humanity .. should be seen as a model
by the rest of the world.

Ms BRYCE made history in September when she became Australia's first female head of state.

Today .. she met East Timor's Prime Minister XANANA GUSMAO and President JOSE RAMOS-HORTA.
