The MediaQ MQ1188 Multimedia Platform Controller is a key system component in the new Windows Powered Mio 8380 Smartphone from MiTAC International Corp. The MiTAC Mio 8380 Smartphone integrates Internet access, audiovisual media playback, digital camera, personal information management, and e-mail into a mobile phone with a large high-resolution color screen.
The high-performance, low-power MQ1188 controller handles all multimedia and screen display functions on the Mio 8380, enhancing the mobile users' experience with both digital lifestyle and mobile commerce applications. MQ1188 controls the high-resolution (176x220) 64k-color (16 bit-per-pixel) 2.2" transflective TFT-LCD screen, which is large enough for browsing photographs or watching videos. A powerful built-in video processing and scaling engine enables video playback, providing clear, realistic image quality for the best possible viewing experience.
Acting as a companion chip to the Intel XScale-200MHz CPU, the MediaQ MQ1188 controller helps reduce overall system power consumption and extend battery life. MQ1188 features a 64-bit wide internal bus to on-chip embedded memory for scalable bandwidth of up to 528MB/sec. This memory provides storage for frame buffers and video buffers, eliminating the need to use energy-consuming system memory.
"The new MiTAC Smartphone is the first mobile phone that truly brings together all the functionality needed for a full-fledged digital lifestyle," said Manish Singh, marketing vice president at MediaQ. "The MQ1188 controller plays a key role in this state-of-the-art mobile phone system, not only enhancing the performance of all multimedia applications, but also helping conserve precious battery power. As a result, users can have more talk time, take more digital pictures, play longer games, and watch more video clips."
"Among the Mio 8380's most exciting features are its video and gaming functionalities. The Mio 8380 offers superb visual and sound effects for users who want the multimedia entertainment experience," said Samuel Wang, general manager of Mobile Communications Unit, MiTAC International Corp. "MiTAC is very pleased to work with MediaQ to support the unique features of the Mio 8380 smartphone. The MQ1188 controller provides image enhancement, low power consumption, and long battery life, helping make the Mio 8380 one of the 'smartest' mobile phones."
In addition to multimedia and screen display functions, the MediaQ MQ1188 controller also provides the Mio 8380 Smartphone with built-in popular peripheral interfaces, such as USB host/device controllers for data synch cradle, keyboard, mouse, etc., and 4-bit SD/SDIO controller for unparalleled expandability and connectivity options using memory cards as well as card-based peripherals, i.e., Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS card.
