Fed: Tristar workers meet to consider AIRC ruling
A mass meeting of Tristar workers will be held at midday (AEST) in Sydney to decide
whether to continue strike action in defiance of an industrial relations commission ruling.
The workers of the car components company will consider an Australian Industrial Relations
Commission ruling that the strike will become illegal if it continues beyond 3pm (AEST)
today.
The 350 Tristar workers have been ordered by the commission to end their 14-day strike
because it is harming the national economy and costing jobs.
The strike has forced major car manufacturers to halt production and stand down thousands
of workers.
Tristar has said it will take at least three days for steering parts to begin flowing
to manufacturers once the strike ends.
Unions and Tristar continued private negotiations overnight, but failed to reach a resolution.
