Dateline: THESSALONIKI, GreeceA German man went on trial Tuesday, accused of luring a Florida teen-ager to Greece over the Internet. The girl's mother testified she had pleaded with him to leave her daughter alone.

Stephanie Lavoie told the court in this northern port city that she had talked with Konstantin Baehring, 36, over the phone after learning of his relationship with his daughter, now aged 15.

Baehring, a German who lives in Greece, was arrested last year following an international police investigation of the disappearance of the teen-age girl who fled her native Mulberry, Florida for Greece.

She was found in Feb. 2001 in Thessaloniki. She is due to testify at the trial and has been accompanied by a psychologist from the United States.

Lavoie also told the court she had changed her home telephone number and several passwords on the family computer in an effort to stop communication between her daughter and the German man. She said her daughter is having trouble getting over the relationship.

Baehring is accused of abduction of a minor with malicious intent and the less serious charges of sexual assault and exposing a minor to improper material.

The trial is expected to last until the end of the week.
